The Journey to Synthetic Lawn Turf

A backyard lawn turf installation.

Typically, Waypoint Construction had only used lawn turf for making a home putting green. Working with top architects, we started seeing more and more synthetic lawns on home projects. Waypoint sourced for more than a year to find the right synthetic turf company to work with to make the entire lawn scape a synthetic turf project.

Applying the synthetic turf to eliminate seems.

The application is similar to pavers, which fits perfectly into the Waypoint Construction skill set. The difference between poor installs and great installs is if you can see the seams or not. There is a proper technique to laying a good seam during a turf install, and our technicians at Waypoint Construction are fully versed at this technique.

A beautiful lawn year round.

Big advantages with lawn turf: Limit the need for water, pesticides, treatments. Keep a beautiful lawn year round. With older antebellum homes, particularly in Georgia, you have the challenge of Permeable vs Impermeable space. Access of water in particular is a challenge, which synthetic turf can solve.

Waypoint Construction only works with client focused companies, and Global Syn-Turf is a prime and valued partner.

Weight and quality of the synthetic turf.

Pricing and selection are based on the weight of the turf. Different versions have different weights, where you can feel the quality. Waypoint leans to the upper tier quality and weight, because this is your lawn. Look at the weight, look at the quality of the mat, look at the warranty. GST has a 15 year warranty, born and made in the USA, and that’s key to an install contractor.

Technology in the design of a synthetic lawn.

Blade design and water flow over the turf is key. Lawn turf could reach temperatures of 160 degrees, which is nearly a barrier for a family with kids and pets. Cool Turf - By changing the shape of the blade, they can dissipate the heat. Diamond shape enhances the technology in blade design

Case Study in Cumming, GA

A homeowner in the Polo Golf and Country Club had a lawn where no grass would grow. The Global Syn-Turf product used in this case was stitched and made in Dalton, GA. GST can manufacture their product in other plants across the USA.

Yard area, pre-install.

The backyard area would now allow for a natural lawn. The house has a beautiful renovated pool with a Brazilian hardwood patio. Homeowners have grand kids and pets, so low maintenance and easy clean up were priorities.

Conditions were favorable for a synthetic turf.

When assessing the homeowner’s property for the turf project, the biggest issue was not enough direct sunlight. While there was no heat issue on this particular project, key to note: **REFLECTIONS FROM THE GLASS OF YOUR HOUSE CAN BURN A HOLE IN YOUR TURF. Part of the homeowner process CAN BE tinting windows. Lawn turf companies do not warranty for sunlight burns.

Synthetic turf laid right to the edge of the pool deck.

Green synthetic, silica fill as opposed to river sand can help mitigate high temps. Once installed, no regular maintenance, no bugs, no risk of being overgrown by weeds. Any stray weed, you simply spray with weed killer. Lawn turf comes in 15 ft. wide rolls, typically 35 feet long (400-500 pounds). You want to think it terms of 15 foot runs to best hide the seams.

The Result.

For this particular lawn in the shade, Waypoint used an “80 Weight” product: “Global Syn Turf W-Blade 80”. A homeowner can simply rake the fibers back up when necessary after heavy foot traffic. Zeofill is a product applied to help with pet smells. Now we have a lawn the matches the beauty of the renovated home, and will be enjoyed year round.
